Here are a few of my favorite cold-weather fingerplays for you to learn and teach to your children!
Here’s a Cup
Here’s a cup and here’s a cup
And here’s a pot of tea.
Pour a cup and pour a cup
And drink it up with me.
Form one hand like a cup and then the other
Put up one thumb to make a teapot
Pour tea from teapot to cup and then switch hands
Drink from pretend cup
A Wise Old Owl
A wise old owl, he lived in an oak,
The more he saw, the less he spoke,
The less he spoke, the more that he heard,
Why can’t we all be like that wise old bird?
Use fingers, first two circle eyes, next three stand up like ears, to make an owl face
Finger to lips
Hand to cup ear as if listening
Make owl face again
Snowflakes, snowflakes, falling down,
All around, on the ground.
Get the sled and climb so high
Down we’ll go, slippity slide!
Sit up, hands make snowflakes falling down
Arms gesture all around the ground
Use one arm to make a hill, the other hand walks up
Slide hand down arm like a sled, whoosh!
